Ch'umil Star Design
This Maya geometry symbol throughout this project is Ch'umil, which means Star in the Mayan Kaqchikel and K'iche' languages. It is the graphic representation of Ixoq'ij (venus), the beginning of the world even before the appearance of the sun. The observation of Ch'umil was fundamental for the creation of our sacred calendars.
Ch'umil is an original Maya geometry designed from years of research by Aurora Nohemi. The design has a sound, algebra, arithmetic, area, perimeter, direction, Chachal (necklace) and an aesthetic based on Maya textiles from Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán in Guatemala.
